CO₂ Laser Resurfacing: The Gold Standard for Skin Renewal

September 25, 2025 · 3 min read · By Oscar Babb

At Devenir Aesthetics, we’re proud to offer one of the most transformative treatments in medical aesthetics: CO₂ laser resurfacing. Considered the most powerful non-surgical option available, CO₂ laser helps restore skin health, improve scars, and achieve long-lasting rejuvenation.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

CO₂ laser is safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV, which typically includes fair to medium Caucasian skin and some light Hispanic, Asian, or Mediterranean skin tones. It is not recommended for darker Fitzpatrick types (V–VI), as the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation can outweigh the benefits.

What Does CO₂ Laser Do?

The treatment creates microscopic channels in the skin, stimulating your body’s natural healing response and bringing in growth factors, collagen, and elastin to remodel and renew the skin.

Results include:

  • Skin tightening — the best non-surgical tightening available
  • Scar improvement — acne scars, surgical scars, and even breast cancer reconstruction scars
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Healthier skin overall — often recommended for patients with sun damage or actinic keratosis

Results develop gradually over 6–12 months as collagen and elastin remodel. Many patients continue seeing improvement up to a year or more after treatment.

What to Expect: Downtime and Healing

  • Procedure time: 15–20 minutes for the face; 30–35 minutes for face, neck, and chest
  • Comfort: Strong in-office topical anesthetic applied for one hour before treatment
  • Downtime: About 7–10 days of healing, with lingering redness for up to two weeks
  • Makeup & SPF: No makeup or sunscreen for at least 4 days

Combination Treatments

For maximum results, CO₂ laser can be combined with radiofrequency microneedling in the same session. This combination enhances collagen stimulation and is particularly effective for significant damage or scarring.

Maintenance and Longevity

Most patients only need CO₂ every 3–5 years to maintain results. Once you’ve had CO₂, your skin will always look better than if you hadn’t done it — thanks to the collagen remodeling and long-term improvements in skin health.
